Leidos delivers essential health services for over 2 million appointments each year, serving multiple clients, but its case management platform is outdated.
In 2024, Leidos QTC plans to modernize its multi-tenant enterprise medical case management system, improving efficiency and experience for its 2,800 operational team staff. These are also intended to accommodate more new clients' needs.
Despite significant similarities in case processing for most clients, Eprocess, the outdated platform, still uses separate monolithic systems for each one, making maintenance and updates redundant. The outdated user interfaces also compromise the user experience."
Reduction in current Leidos QTC operational manual tasks
Estimated increase in new cases across clients is expected after the 2025 launch
Resuable UI components, styles and responsive framework can be continuously utilized by the team.
By bringing all clients into one system, the new task-based platform improves case processing, enabling operational staff to work more efficiently with higher automation of repetitive tasks.
The new dashboard with table and Kanban views lets users manage diverse client tasks simultaneously, with filters and clear status indicators for efficient tracking and prioritization.
OM team users can print, ship, and confirm packages by automating document management, email notifications, and tracking shipping information to ensure everything is prepared before the appointment date.
Examinee availability can be managed with a three-attempt module that includes note-taking to document situation-specific details for triaging appointments with providers.
The foundation of the product's design system, which improves internal design efficiency and establishes a solid base for future product development.

Due to the platform's unique nature, its business goal is to serve both current and future clients. To minimize variations across clients and reduce development load while maintaining a consistent platform style, I focus on creating reusable components. These components integrate seamlessly into existing systems.
I gained valuable experience in balancing functionality with development capacity. Each product sprint focused on meeting MVP requirements, so I designed solutions with different levels of automation to match the needs of each stage. This approach allowed me to address evolving demands while keeping the product within realistic development limits.
My experience at Leidos was deeply rewarding. It allowed me to grow as a designer while building meaningful connections with my team, making the experience both professionally fulfilling and personally enriching.

"Liyuan has been awesome in handling the entire design system and compensation level tasks. The number of different iterations Liyuan came up with before choosing the final design was impressive. She even went ahead and documented most of the design process, backed it up with research, design guidelines, and ensured every step was thoroughly planned early on. Establishing that foundation was the most critical part..."
